    Job & Innovation Fair for Diversability 2019: Job Opportunities for the Disabed

    Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia (AJCUI), in partnerships with the International Labour Organization (ILO), Difalink (previously known as Diffago) and DARE Foundation, held the Job & Innovation Fair for Diversability 2019 for two days on 22-23 August.

    Taking place in Campus 1 Semanggi, this job fair was attended by 18 companies and 5 start-up companies or social enterprises. The companies taking part in this fair were hotels, banks, retails, and manufacturers; while the start-up companies ranged from food and beverage, tourism and service sectors.

    The 3rd vice rector of AJCUI, dr. Tommy Nugroho Tanumihardja, Sp. An, who attended this job fair, said that this job fair was a demonstration of AJCUI’s social care to job seekers with disabilities.

    “This job fair would really help job seekers, especially those with disabilities. This is our form of social care, which is a core value of Atma Jaya,” said dr. Tommy.

    Moreover, dr. Tommy also hoped that this job fair could support the sustainable development goals. “Of course we hope that many of our friends will get jobs, and it will support nation development in the future,” he said.

    This job fair tried to build network and connect job seekers and job providers which had awareness towards disabilities.

    One of social companies who employed, facilitated, and distributed the work and products of hundreds of disabled people was Precious One. The marketing staff from the company, Mardea Mumpuni, said that the company was making use of took digital to sell products produced by disabled people.

    “We make use of existing digital stores to promote our products and services. As more people know about us, we hope that we can expand our market, improve our services, and involve more and more people with disabilities,” he said.

    Tendy Gunawan, a staff from ILO for Job Equality for Disabled, emphasized the importance of connecting companies with disabled workers. “Many companies still do not know the benefits of employing people with disabilities. Through this job fair, we hope that we can give equal job opportunities for people with disabilities so that they can develop themselves and work according to their interests, talents and capabilities,” he said.

    This job fair was expected to provide opportunities and facilitate people with disabilities in order to realize the sustainable development in Indonesia.
