International Community Outreach Programme by UiTM FBM, Malaysia Postgraduate Students

The postgraduate students from the Faculty of Business and Management (FBM), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia conducted an international community outreach programme on 14 November 2019. The purpose of the program was to conduct an international personal finance workshop for high school students at the SMA 17 Agustus 1945 (SMATAG), Surabaya, Indonesia.

Dr Amirul Afif Muhamat, Head of Department for Postgraduate and Professional Studies of FBM led the programme and was accompanied by Dr Muhammad Hafiz Abd Rashid, Postgraduate Research Coordinator, Dr Nor Farradilla Abdul Aziz, Head of Corporate Communication and Strategic Planning and Dr Azilah Anis, Professional Programme Coordinator.

The sessions were attended by nearly 30 high school students from SMATAG and it started with a seminar by FBM student, Maily Patrick and Mohamad Izzudin Ismail. It was an interactive session since the high school students were actively asking questions and giving their opinions about the financial management issue.  In addition, they played the financial management board game known as Muamalat Board Game sponsored by Yayasan Inovasi Malaysia (YIM).

The students were able to test their knowledge on financial management by playing the board game since they were able to practice the theories and steps that they have learnt in their personal finance course. This programme actually corresponds to the Sustainable Development Goal No.4 (SDG4) which highlights on the importance of quality education as a foundation to creating better society in the future.

The SMATAG principal, Drs Prehantoro shared his appreciation on the international community outreach programme since it broadens the SMATAG students’ views and perspectives on personal finance. He also looked forward to visiting UiTM in the future. In response towards the principal’s views, Dr Amirul conveyed FBM’s invitation to SMATAG to visit UiTM for a cultural exchange and partnership initiative. As a token of appreciation SMATAG received a set of board game at the end of the event to be used by the high school students.
