The National Research University Higher School of Economics (HSE) is pleased to announce an international competition for experimental research laboratories in breakthrough fields of contemporary physics, such as Quantum Technologies and New Functional Materials. Winners will have the opportunity to develop and lead new research laboratories based at the HSE Faculty of Physics.
The competition is aimed at creating several research labs focused on quantum technologies and new functional materials at the HSE Faculty of Physics.
Recent PhDs (date of conferment must be in the last 15 years) with experience in the fields of quantum technologies and new functional materials are invited to participate in the competition.
The winners of the competition will be hired full-time as laboratory heads at the Faculty of Physics; HSE will become their primary place of employment for the full duration of the project, which will span five years.
The laboratory heads will be responsible for building strong research teams that will engage in active research in relevant areas. Starting in 2022, the heads of the laboratories will also be charged with attracting annual co-financing.
The results of research conducted at the laboratories will be published in the world’s leading scientific journals. Students and postgraduates of the Faculty of Physics will be involved in the work of the laboratories, which will collaborate with the Faculty’s partner institutes, as well as other Russian and international research.
Each lab will be allocated a starting budget of 150 million roubles to acquire state-of-the-art measurement equipment in 2019-2020. An additional 7 million roubles for employee remuneration and other research related expenses will be allocated in 2019. For 2020-2024, this yearly amount will increase to 13 million roubles. HSE will be responsible for organizing the competition as well as for providing technical support for procurement of equipment and lab space refurbishment.
