Professional golfer Kim In-Kyung, who studies at the Division of International Sport and Leisure at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS) rallied to win the Marathon Classic held in Sylvania, Ohio, on July 24 (Korean time) to become the second two-time winner this season on the LPGA Tour.
At the par-71 Highland Meadows Golf Club in Sylvania, Ohio, Kim carded a bogey-free eight-under par 63 in the final round and finished 72 holes with a 21-under par 263 for a four-stroke victory over Lexi Thompson (US).
Having enrolled in HUFS in 2012 and currently on a leave of absence, this win represents the second one of the year for Kim, who also captured her sixth LPGA victory.
In the meantime, Park Sung-Hyun, who also studies at the same division at HUFS, won the United States Women’s Open a week earlier on July 17, 2017.
At Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, she was in fourth place after three rounds, sitting three strokes behind China’s Shanshan Feng. Thanks to an impressive final round, the LPGA rookie notched her first LPGA win at 11-under 277.
HUFS Division of International Sport and Leisure was established in 2006 with the aim of cultivating linguistically proficient talent specialized in sports diplomacy, administration, marketing, and reporting. As of now, Kim In-Kyung, Park Sung-Hyun, and Song Han-Na-Rai (climbing) are enrolled in the division.
