    Faculty of Law, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Malaysia organised the 17th IUCN Academy of Environmental Law Colloquium in August 2019

    The Faculty of Law, UiTM, through its Centre for Environmental Law, Governance and Policy (CELGoP), successfully organised the 17th International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Academy of Environmental Law Colloquium on 4-9 August 2019 at the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC), Kuala Lumpur.

    The IUCN Academy of Environmental Law is an international network of approximately 200 environmental law faculties and research centres from 60 countries all over the world.

    The IUCN Academy of Environmental Law Colloquium 2019 continued the tradition of bringing together academics, researchers and professionals from diverse backgrounds, to discuss current international, comparative, national, and local environmental law issues. The colloquium provided an international forum to deliberate and share knowledge and experiences. The theme of the 17th Colloquium was Achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Law as Part of the Solution. Professor Elizabeth Kirk, the Chair of the IUCN Academy of Environmental Law, delivered the Keynote Speech.  The colloquium was launched by Mrs. Nor Aziah Jaafar, the Director of Department of Environment, Kuala Lumpur. Also present were Prof. Dato’ Dr. Rahmat Mohamad, the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Industry, Community, Alumni & Entrepreneurship Network (ICAEN) of UiTM and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hartini Saripan, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, UiTM.

    The Faculty was also privileged to host the Tony Oposa inter generational Moot Court, bringing students and scholars together in simulated court proceedings before a panel acting as the International Court of Justice; addressing issues of the rights of the indigenous peoples and global warming.
