The Faculty of Business and Management (FBM) Universiti Teknologi MARA, (UiTM) through its halal centre, iHALALMAS, was very privileged to join forces with the Department of Standard Malaysia, towards meeting the aspiration of Malaysia to become the world’s leading halal hub.
The programme was very valuable as it involved a few sharing sessions related to halal standards, which deepened the understanding of the Halal Malaysian Standard and its importance to consumers and the industry. More importantly, this programme played a crucial role as an interactive platform for students to meet with the experts of the halal industry, which assisted the students and academics on understanding the halal ecosystem.
The students and the faculty were privileged to have the industry players including Mr. Ahmad Syukry Ibrahim from Mamee Double Decker (M) Sdn. Bhd, Mr Hj Mohd Roslan Mohd Saludin of Halal QSR Brand (M) Berhad, Mr Sarifuddin Mahmud of Nestle Malaysia, and the famous Halal celebrity, Ustaz Mohd Amri Abdullah of Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (JAKIM) and the main sponsor, Department of Standards Malaysia, who was represented by Madam Fakheezah Borhan and her team.
Apart from the sharing sessions, the students and lecturers also participated in various activities during this one-day programme which included quizzes, group participation which ended with a three-minute video competition on the importance of halal.
Indeed, this programme helped to enhance the understanding of halal and related standards among students, thereby increasing their competitiveness of the marketability of graduates. Significantly, students can gain knowledge outside the classroom, especially from the halal experts, as well as building teamwork, through the engagement in quizzes and contests. FBM is grateful to the Department of Standard Malaysia, as well as the rest of the halal industry players, for their valuable support and commitment towards this fruitful program.
