    Computer Science UiTM Malaysia bags the most prestigious ‘Top Premier Digital Tech Institution’ 2019 award

    Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Sciences (FSKM), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia was awarded the “Top Premier Digital Tech Institution” on 28 Nov 2019.  The much prestigious event, organized by the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation Sdn. Bhd. (MDEC) “An Evening of Achievement” was held at the Prism & Spectrum Connexion Bangsar South. The event is held to appreciate all Premier Digital Tech Institutions (PDTIs) for the success of the Premier-PRIDE Challenge (PPC) 2019.

    Besides bagging the main award, UiTM also won 3 Partner Awards, the SAS Most Engaged University, AWS Early Adopters Institute (2nd runner up) and Intel Best University in Curriculum Embedment (2nd runner up). UiTM brought home RM 10,000 (MDEC) and RM 10,000 worth of gifts from SAS Malaysia in the form of SAS conference packages including backpacking tickets to USA and USD 425 worth of equipment from Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Deep Learning (neural compute stick) worth RM 1000.

    The objective of the challenge is to encourage Premier Digital Tech Institutions to acquire knowledge and skills offered by eight (8) leading technology partners such as Microsoft, Intel, RunCloud, AWS, SAS, CISCO, Oracle and Jobstreet. Five main criteria for the rewards’ include; the number of activities participated, the percentage of students who completed the courses, percentage of lecturers who participated, proof of curriculum embedment plan and percentage of students employed.

    Said Dr. Sumitra Nair, Vice President of Talent & Digital Entrepreneurship, MDEC “Our objective is to strengthen the quality of digital tech graduates in order to create a strong talent pipeline for the ICT and digital industry in order to propel Malaysia forward as a leader in ASEAN and beyond.” The Premier Digital Tech Institutions initiative was jointly developed by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia and Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) in 2017. This initiative aims to meet the huge demand for industry-ready computer science graduates.
