Community Initiative by UiTM Electrical Engineering for Secondary School Students

The Industry, Community and Alumni Networking Unit of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (ICAN FEE) Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) has organized a community program and academic mission in conjunction with the reopening of school sessions throughout Malaysia after the recovery Movement Control Order (MCO).

Concerned about the reaction of students who are worried about returning to school in the new norms atmosphere, especially for the hijab female students, FEE UiTM has utilized all the expertise and facilities using existing 3D printers by producing “ear loop extender” for face mask. This loop extender is very useful for female students to wear face masks and simultaneously to comply with the guidelines set by the Ministry of Education Malaysia.

The “ear loop extender” was handed over by the ICAN FEE Deputy Dean, Associate Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Sabirin Zoolfakar to Tuan Haji Kamali bin Murid, Principal of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seksyen 18 Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia to be used before the school session begins.

The program led by the Community Coordinator FEE, Ir. Ts. Dr. Maizatul Zolkapli in collaboration with FEE lecturer Ts. Dr. Noorfadzli Abdul Razak, technical staff and administrative staff have successfully produced 560 units of ‘earloop extender’ in 6 days using the 3D printers. Since the beginning of MCO, printing work in the laboratory was actively carried out to meet the demand of front liners. Ts. Dr. Noorfadzli and his team also produced face shield brackets and aero chamber for children using 3D printers.

The community service activities are to expose the programs offered by FEE specifically and UiTM in general to the school students for their consideration to further study after they completed their higher school education.

The school welcomes this effort and interested in collaborating for some programs such as science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) in the future.
