    American University in the Emirates’ finance students win the blockchain fintech hackathon

    AUE Finance Students from the College of Business Administration (COBA) took part in the Fintech Hackathon 2.0 held from 25-27 April 2019, organized by Department of Finance (DOF) Abu Dhabi in cooperation with BeMyApp from France. Students developed “apps” for DOF for Budgeting solutions based on Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence (AI) or Internet of Things (IoT). 14 students from COBA took part in this Hackathon with a total of 13 teams consisting of 3-5 members. Each team pitched for 3 minutes in front of a Jury consisting of Excellencies from Department of Finance (AbuDhabi); H.E Shareefa Saeed Salem Al Jaberi and H.E Abdulaziz Hareb Al Yousuf and other Dignitaries from the Industry.

    The winning student Basel Ahmed Hussein Al-Basara in team “DOF Chain” won first prize worth AED 20,000, while Mahmoud Fouad Shaban Mehaisen in team “TracX” won second prize of AED 15,000.

    Winning projects on Blockchain will now be converted into “apps” and will be used by DOF.

    Prof. Muthanna G. Abdul Razzaq, President and CEO of the American University in the Emirates congratulated the students on this achievement and rewarded them with shields. Other teams included students from Zayed University, UAEU, Al Ain University, AbuDhabi University, Amity University, Bits Pillani University and University of Sharjah besides AUE. All students received Certificates of Attendance and Appreciation from DOF. Winning teams were also called by the AdbuDhabi Global Markets the following day for presentations.
