    6 Chinese universities made it to Top 100 of QS Asia University Rankings 2018

    More Chinese universities have managed to enter the top 100 of the latest QS Asia University Rankings, with Zhejiang University and University of Science & Technology of China making it to the list as well for the first time.

    According to The New York Times, in 1998, only a mere 3.4 million students were enrolled in Chinese universities. However, today the numbers have rose to over 26.2 million.

    1. Tsinghua University, Beijing
    Tsinghua University has retained its position as the top performing Chinese university in the University Rankings. Tsinghua University was founded in 1911 and now has 36,300 students enrolled in 20 schools.

    2. Peking University, Beijing
    Peking University retains its position at second place among the top universities in China. The institution was originally founded in 1898 as the Imperial University of Peking, and has since gained a reputation as one of the most prestigious research universities in China.

    3. Fudan University, Shanghai
    Fudan University also retained its position at 3rd place. It was founded in 1905 as Fudan Public School and now has around 31,000 students enrolled in 17 schools. The university boasts 77 research institutes and 10 teaching hospitals, and is also associated with the Shanghai Institute of Visual Art (an independent subsidiary).

    4. Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai
    It was founded in 1896 and now teaches around 37,500 students. The university top subjects including computing science, chemical engineering, civil and structural engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, mechanical engineering, chemistry, material sciences, art and design and business and management.

    5. Zhengjiang University, Hangzhou
    It is also known as Zheda, was founded in 1897. It now has one of the largest academic libraries amongst Chinese universities, as well as a total enrolment of 47,339 students.

    The university is ranked among the world’s best of 24 subjects, placing in the world’s top 50 for chemical engineering.

    6. University of Science & Technology of China, Hefei
    USTC is led by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and was founded in 1958 to meet the science and technology needs of the country and increase its global competitiveness. It is also being featured among the world’s best for 12 subjects in 2016, and achieve its highest positions for chemistry and materials sciences.
