Sunway University is one of Malaysia’s leading private higher education institution and is ranked among the top 2.5 percent of QS University Rankings: Asia 2018. At present, it also has within its portfolio nine centres pursuing research across various fields of study.

Provost, Professor Peter Heard together with three distinguished professors will be working hand in hand to manage and advance the research centres at the institution. Professor Mohamed Kheireddine Aroua will spearhead the Research Centre for Carbon Dioxide Capture and Utilisation, where they will focus on water security, energy security and environment and climate change research. In line with the JSC and Sunway’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), Professor Kheireddine and his team created a solar powered self-cleaning mobile Ultrafiltration (UF) system. This innovative self-cleaning system was used during the recent severe floods in the states of Kelantan, Sarawak and Perak to treat flood and river water to produce clean water for the flood victims. As a result, Professor Kheireddine was also awarded the 2016 University of Malaya’s award for exceptional achievement in community engagement.

With nanomaterials being the key element of nanoscience and nanotechnology, the Research Centre for Nano-Materials and Energy Technology is also being established at the Sunway University and spearheaded by Professor Saidur Rahman, an outstanding academic within his field.

In addition, Sunway University aims to develop into the nations international educational hub not only through the implementation of international partnerships with premier universities such as Lancaster University and le Cordon Bleu International; but also through the expansion of academic collaborations with University of Oxford, University of Cambridge and Harvard University.
