Five of nine top directors in charge of the overseas businesses of Samsung Electronics are graduates from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS): (From the left) Hong Hyun-Chil, CEO of Samsung Electronics Southwest Asia (enrolled in Dept. of Spanish in 1980); Kim Jung-Hwan, CEO of Samsung Electronics Central and South America (enrolled in Dept. of Portuguese in 1977); Kim Yoo Young, CEO of Samsung Electronics Africa (enrolled in Dept. of International Economics and Law in 1977); Myung Seong-Hwan, Executive Director of Samsung Electronics Middle East (enrolled in Dept. of Italian in 1980); and  Kim Eui-Tak, Executive Director of Samsung Electronics CIS (enrolled in Dept. of English Linguistics in 1978).

Chosun Biz, a daily business newspaper, stated in an article dated July 13, 2017 that the world’s leading maker of consumer electronics reshuffled its executives, appointing five new executive directors to lead its overseas businesses.

The article noted that all five of the new executive directors are HUFS alumni. It seems that as these regions are known for their high language barriers, the company has chosen to place personnel with linguistic proficiency at the helm.
